Steven Green

Today's Exclusive Friday interview is with Kansas City based photographer, Steven Green. I worked with him on my personal shoot for Lo'Cal Fashion Magazine and it was a pleasure. The shoot was fun and exciting. Steven made me feel comfortable and beautiful! The day of our interview Steven was easy to talk to and open with his questions. It is not everyday that I interact with a man so respectful and humble, yet amazingly talented. It was an honor to interview Mr. Steven Green. Where do you work? What is your occupation?
Steven G. Photography, Lo’Cal Fashion Magazine, and Select Photographics

Where do you see your career in five years?
In my five year I see my career established; owning a studio and a bigger brand of marketing, an actual marketing company. I see myself established in every media facet. I would like to remain in Kansas City. I do a lot of networking between Kansas City and St. Louis.

Who have you worked with and/or worked for?
I have worked with Lo’Cal Fashion Magazine, Select, Keefe Cravat, Midwest Black Hair Magazine, and a variety of stylists, make up artist, and designers.

What was your motivation behind starting your photography business?
I have always liked to make my own decisions and call the shots. It is in my blood. I got a lot of inspiration from my father. He owns properties and businesses.

How do you balance your business and personal life?
Prioritutizing time between work and social life.

What is your thought process when preparing for a shoot?
First, I open up my mind creatively. I try to be as creative as possible. I never know what I am going to get or what to expect when arriving at a shoot. Things can change in the blink of an eye.

How long does it take for you to prepare for a large shoot?
A large shoot would be with multiple models and stylist. When I work with my personal stylist we have a small consultation about direction and overall concept. We want to figure out the foundation of the shoot, scene, and set then build off of that. I like to work with my stylist, Janaya Stephenson, one-on-one.
Modernized Hippie Shoot
What was your favorite shoot to date?
My favorite shoot to date is the modernized hippie and black light edition shoot for my portfolio and Lo’Cal Fashion Magazine.

Who are your favorite people to work with?
Models: Hebron Kelecha, Whitney Suber, Lo’CalFashion Magazine, Janaya Stephenson, LB Glam  

Who is a photographer that you admire? 
Derek Blanks, based out of ATL he is very diverse. He does cd covers for artists like Chrisette Michelle and Michelle Williams.

What does confidence mean to you?
Know what you want and be confident in your vision. Never second guess yourself. Art is creativity and you never want to put a limit on it.

What is your biggest dream or aspiration as a photographer?
To be established internationally and have a well off life financially, photos to pay the bills.

What fashion story describes you in a nutshell?
Very versatile, no one outfit, from loafers with a button down to a crewneck and crazy 8s.

Who is your style icon?  No one, but he likes the style of them.
No one person, but my favorites are Wale and stylist Dejon Marquise.

How would you describe your overall style?
Urban Hipster

What are your staple items?
White v-neck, light wash denim jacket, Sperry’s, skully

If you had to pick 1 item from your closet to describe you as a person, what would it be? Why?
Blue Alfani Loafers because they represent sophistication, reserved, and current, boldness, crazy style.

Name your favorite pairs of shoes.
Addidas Crazy 8 oil spill, blue loafers, and new balance 420 (3 favs)

Who is your favorite designer? Why?
Vintage Ralph Lauren

Where is your favorite place to shoot?
Outdoors, industrial grunges/ urban downtown

Lo'Cal Fashion Magazine Shoot

What is your favorite season to shoot? Why?
Fall because of the change of scenery from summer to fall. The difrrent colors of the sunsets, leaves, and scenery.

Do you prefer couture or RTW (ready to wear) style shoots? Why?
I prefer couture because I like the versailtilty that you get with high fashion. The creativity is so broad and you can create so much. RTW is seasonal.

What are your favorite fashion publications?

Where is your favorite place to shop?
My favorite place to shop is Macy’s. I would like to shop at Neiman Marcus.

What career advice do you have for TheeFashionStories readers?
Never give up on your dreams and keep God first. Push and grind, keep a positive circle of creative people and build off of each other.

What mark do you want to leave on this world?
I would like to be a blessing to the world, no matter what I am doing. It’s a blessing to be a blessing. I want to leave a positive mark.

What makes your work or brand different from your peers?
Creatively and artistically I am set a part. I pay close attention to detail. My work represents class and professionalism.

If you could relocate, where would you move? Why?
The UK because creatively they are on a different level and they embrace art as a lifestyle.

Do you have any upcoming events or projects that TheeFashionStories readers should be on the lookout for?
Lo’Cal Fashion Magazine's release on January, 18 2014 and my music. I will be releasing an EP sometime next summer. I sing gospel music with a neo soul feel.
