Michele Tucker

Michele Denise Tucker is a 21 years old makeup artist and stylist. I ran across her page on Instagram and was very impressed with her work. She is currently attending  Maple Woods Community College, and plans to attend UMKC next year. Michele is currently majoring in business management, and considering minoring in fashion merchandising. She currently works for Michael Kors. Michele is a trendy fashionista with a love for Chanel and Michael Kors. Keep reading to learn more about this fashion forward and oh so gorgeous young woman!

What was your motivation behind starting your career?
My motivation came from watching different reality TV shows that focused on women who were head strong, and loved fashion. My main shows were Life in the Fab Lane which was about Kimora Lee Simmons, and her brand. Then I would also watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians. They had their own businesses, and personal sense of style. They did not try to be like anyone else, but instead they started new trends. That is how I go about my personal style and life decisions.

Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration from fashion bloggers, and also make-up artist that I follow on Instagram. For make-up ideas I get ideas from @makeupshayla, @amrezy, and @desimakeup. They are three best friends who are extremely well known artist, and they never fail to amaze me. For fashion tips I look up to @caraloren, and @fashionhippieloves. Their blogs contain pictures of outfits they put together that follow current trends, and they have links that take to sites containing the merchandise they are wearing. They also have alternatives items that are similar, but yet more affordable.

PRETTY HURTS?

Beyonce said it best, "Perfection is a disease of a nation, pretty hurts." I still remember the first time I heard Pretty Hurts by Beyonce. I was in the car with my best friend Deanna going to St. Louis and it was as if the words jumped into my heart. I knew that I had to share my opinion and story. I love Pretty Hurts because I can relate and because Beyonce is an amazing artist. The song discusses self image and how perfection is an illusion. Pretty Hurts and a recent event at my school entitled Breaking Pretty Barriers, inspired this post. So let's get things started! Here is the video to the audio version of the song. Forget all of your opinions of Beyonce and just read the lyrics.Watch and discuss! Peep my thoughts and story below.

What are your thoughts on Pretty Hurts? Did it make you feel any type of way? Reflect on the lyrics of this song. Have you ever struggled with feeling pretty? Perfection is a disease of a nation, pretty hurts. My idea of pretty has changed over the course of my 21 years on this Earth. The way that I see myself has changed a lot as well. I often struggle with being sure of my own total beauty. I know that I am pretty, but I don't like my physical shape. I never can seem to get it just right or perfect. I am so hard on myself and nit picky. I hate it, but its real. The question is WHY?

BEAUTY AND BOW TIES

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Beauty and Bow Ties Fashion Show. The venue was packed and super special to me. I started my blogging career at that venue with the KC Fashion Week Bridal Show Spring 2013. Although it's only been a little over a year, it feels like that was so long ago. In just a short period of time, I have grown so much as a blogger and woman. God can truly do the impossible! Now back to the show...

I was given a press pass, so I stood at the end of the runway taking pictures and recording video all night. I was really impressed with some of the boutiques and designers that were showcasing their work.  I was especially impressed with designer Whitney Manney. I was in awe of the colors, prints, and diversity within her line. Last night confirmed that there are so many talented people in Kansas City, of course that's a given but it really sank in last night.

I love seeing my people do positive things and sticking together! Check out photos from the show and my favorite pieces below!

Your Dreams Are Valid

Dear Fashion Lover,

I was inspired by Ms. Lupita Nyong'o and countless others to write this post. Lupita's speech about beauty and her journey really made me want to do better. Seeing her accomplish so much as a black woman is really exciting and empowering! So here it goes...

Do NOT lose yourself. Do not push your dreams to the back burner to fulfill the needs of other people. You are important and your aspirations are valid! Your dreams do not need to make sense to anyone in your circle. You are beautiful and you can have the life that you dream about no matter how out of the ordinary it may be. It is easy to lose yourself in the crowd at school, at your job, within your group of friends, or even while in a relationship. Trust me, I've been there. We all want to fit in and be well liked, but as people we are not like cookie cutters with built-in shapes, dreams, or knowledge, instead we are more original like snowflakes that sparkle in the sunlight. So how is it that we find ourselves being lost in the crowd? It is because we believe the lies people tell us that prove our dream to be invalid. What if I told you that your dreams are totally valid and much-needed? That is exactly what I am saying. The world needs your dreams and ambition. If you don't, then who will? Lupita's life changing speech is below.

My Weekend + Real Talk

Hello Fashion Lovers!

This weekend was super action packed and exciting for me! On Friday afternoon, I started out by speaking at Hogan Preparatory Academy in Kansas City, Missouri about fashion blogging. It was really good to see some of the students that I worked with this past summer in attendance. I was honored when my mentor, Crystal Ward, asked me to speak at Hogan Prep's Career Day. Ms. Ward was my teacher 7 years ago and today she is still heavily involved with educating our youth. She is even in school earning her doctoral degree from the great University of Missouri! Her passion for educating children is evident and inspiring.

Passion is the force that drives purpose. Your purpose will never lead you somewhere that you aren't passionate about. I guess that's why I am still fashion blogging after countless times of "giving up." I love what I do. I love meeting business owners who have drive and faith in their dreams. Passion and drive are essential for anyone who wants to be successful!
