Back-to-School Accesory Must Haves

The school year is quickly approaching for most of my readers so I decided to put together a small accessory guide for the year. Below are a few pictures with details of some of the hottest accessories for the fall. A lookbook with outfit details will be coming in the near future as well! Stay tuned for the Thee Fashion Stories Facebook Fan Giveaway as well! Things are only getting bigger and better!

Flashy
1. Chunky Necklace (Jazzibel Jewels)
2. Beaded Bracelets (Custom Jewelry Designs by Jocelyn)
3. Gold Watch (Target)

This accessory combo is perfect for a printed top. The coral beads in the Jazzibel necklace are eye catching! This necklace is definitely a statement piece! This simple gold watch from Target can be dressed up or down. I wear it practically everyday (It only costs me $4!). These awesome custom made bracelets by Jocelyn McField are versatile pieces that can be matched with anything. This "Flashy" look is perfect for days when you want to look "blinged out!"

Everyday
4. Large Pearl Earrings (Thrift Store)
5. Brown Messenger Bag (Marshalls)
6. Long Gold Necklace (Family Member)

Here is a similar bag from Forever21.com!

The everyday look is simply yet chic. Of course, I am obsessed with gold jewelry so if there is an option I say go gold, but this combo will work with silver pieces as well! A simple chain, bracelet and/or watch, and a pair of earrings screams "CLASSIC!" So for Monday through Thursday easy going days or laid back Fridays this look is awesome! Simple accessories allow your outfit to pop, yet the clothes speak for themselves. This brown messenger bag is cute and simple. I like messenger bags because I can reach in my bag on the go instead of having to take off my "backpack" to find a pen or my water bottle. Which type of bag do you prefer while you're on campus?

Feeling Fancy
7. House of Rena Infinity Scarf (House of Rena)
8. Neon Belt (H&M)
9. Crystal Earrings (Yard Sale)

Are you feeling fancy? Well I sure hope so because this look is for my bold fashionistas. This neon House of Rena scarf is not only cute, but it is soft as a baby's bottom. The House of Rena scarf collection comes in various prints and fabrics so I'm sure that there is one that it perfect for YOU! This neon H&M belt is versatile as well. You can match it with other neons or it would look great with black & white prints as well. Adding a pop of color is always "fancy" and even necessary from time to time!

I hope that you all took a little bit away from this post! I love, love, love all of my accessories and hope that you all support these wonderful small businesses that I have listed below!

Repost: Nickels & Dimes: Warby Parker x DonorsChoose.org

In my opinion, there is nothing cooler than combining philanthropy with fashion. Stylish brands like TOMS and FEED for Target allow shoppers like me to give back to the global community while lining our closets with bags, shoes, hoodies and more. Talk about retail therapy!

For that reason, I am so excited about Warby Parker’s partnership with non-profit organization DonorsChoose.org. Revolutionary eyewear brand Warby Parker was founded by four friends, Neil Blumenthal, Andrew Hunt, Jeffrey Raider and David Gilboa, with a common passion for helping people in more ways than one. They decided to create a company that would provide high-quality prescription frames and shades (plus a monocle) for honest, reasonable prices. Warby Parker’s vintage-inspired glasses cost only $95, compared to the $500+ pairs you’ll find at most optical boutiques.

WP is able to do this by creating their own, timeless designs and selling directly to us, the consumers. They cut out the extra profits to licensing companies and boutiques, while still offering superior glasses, complete with polycarbonate prescription lenses and anti-reflective lens coating. What makes the brand even cooler is that for every pair they sell, they send a pair to someone who can’t afford them. To promote community sustainability, they also partner with non-profits to teach rising low-income entrepreneurs to sell spectacles of their own.

I mean, really. Warby Parker is like that girl we went to high school with that was doing absolutely everything right. She applied early admission and got into every school. She played three sports, but still looked like a Covergirl. And she volunteered weekly at the Boys & Girls Club, so we couldn’t even hate on her.

The great thing about that girl, and WP, is that they inspire us to be better. And with this new campaign, Warby Parker x DonorsChoose.org, they’ve set the bar even higher.

WP x DC on Make A Gif

Introducing the Gardner in Whiskey Tortoise sunglasses. The sleek, geometric design features the classic tortoise shell pattern, flecked with school bus yellow, to honor the tons of children you’ll be helping out when you purchase a pair. When you buy these $95 shades, Warby Parker will make a $30 donation to DonorsChoose.org, an organization that allows anyone, anywhere to help fund class projects online. Teachers post requests for materials on the website, like books for young avid readers or instruments for budding little musicians. And once the amount needed to pay for those supplies has been donated, Donor’s Choose buys and ships them to the classrooms in need.

And if you’re like me, and feel especially drawn to a specific project, like rulers for a second grade class in Colorado to use during math and geography lessons, Warby Parker allows you to pick. Select a project you like, and they’ll make the donation. Even better still, WP will still send a pair of glasses to someone who needs them. So, in addition to adding some perfect sunnies to your collection, you also provide the gift of clear sight to someone else, and help contribute to the growing minds of children.

Warby Parker x DonorsChoose.org might literally be the best campaign by a retail fashion brand ever! With one pair of expertly designed, snazzy shades, you’re literally giving to others twice as much as you treat yo’ self. Can you imagine the good karma?

A wise man, Jay-Z, once said, “The purest form of giving is anonymous to anonymous.” I’d like to add to Jigga’s quote by saying, the purest form of giving is anonymous to anonymous, twice. With sunglasses on.

Let me know what you think of the Warby Parker x DonorsChoose.org campaign below!

Things Have Changed

I used to want to be big and known, similar to other bloggers. But now I want to just be myself and help others grow. I love that TheeFashionStories.com is growing in popularity and that I am building my network. Working with local designers this summer has been so inspiring and eye opening. Dreams really do come true and God has been nothing short of amazing to me. I love the Lord and I love fashion, and it is my pleasure to edit this blog. I love what God is doing in my life and in the lives of others around me. I have grown so much this summer as a business woman and lady. I had big plans of leaving this state for the summer and never coming back, but now I know why God told me to turn down my internship offers. It was simply because he needed to humble me and show me what really matters in life. It's not about money or fame, but rather enjoying life and taking breaths to enjoy the little things. this summer I have genuinely enjoyed. It wasn't perfect and I made some mistakes, but it was all worth it. Looking back at the start of 2013 and now just makes me laugh. God is great and I am really honored to be his little princess. I just wanted to vent to you all and let you know that anything is possible with God on your side and faith in your heart. Don't give up on your dreams. Start here & now, it's never too late.

Much Love,
Jas

H&M Lipstick

So yesterday I was shopping on the Country Club Plaza at H&M for some apparel and shoes when my eyes zeroed in on a tube of orange lipstick. I was a little apprehensive about whether it would be pigmented or not, but I bought it anyway. The sales associate that checked me out gave me reassurance that it was pigmented & had a really nice matte yet lustrous finish. (I was optimistic about the results!)

After I exited the store, I went to the nearest bathroom (Barnes & Noble Bookstore)  and tried on my new orange lipstick. Sure enough it was pigmented & had a slight matte finish. I love my orange H&M lipstick and plan on buying more. It only cost about $6 with taxes included. Have you tried any of H&M's cosmetics? What are your thoughts on their lipstick & lip gloss collections? What are your favorite beauty brands?

Personally, this H&M lipstick is one of my favorite, affordable lipstick brands. I also like Revlon and CoverGirl. However, I am just starting to get into lipstick so I have not tried out a lot of shades of lipstick. Once I buy something new I will let you all know. If you have any requests please let me know and someone on my team will try to fill your request. Be blessed and try out a new shade of lipstick this week ladies!

Weekend News

Hello Lovelies!

Lookbook Sneak Peek
This weekend was absolutely amazing for me! I hung out with my family, made power moves for Thee Fashion Stories and received awesome teaching at church. On Friday night myself along with my cousins, aunts, mom, and other family members gathered at my great aunt's home to play games and eat snacks. It was great to see everyone laugh and play together.

Saturday morning I got an early start with shooting the Back to School Lookbook. It will feature 5 different, fabulous looks and it will drop sometime soon! Geesh summer 2013 has flown right by! I cannot believe that I go back to school in less than a month. God has really favored me this summer, especially with this blog. I could not do any of this without God. The lookbook will be on this blog and YouTube. Thank you Ie'shia McDonald (photographer/videographer) and Eranne Whiters (designer) for your time and support. It was really awesome shooting with you all. If you want to purchase a turban or any type of fashion accessory please check out www.EffortlessStyleKC.com!

T-shirts & Turbans
After the lookbook shoot wrapped up I went birthday shopping for my awesome dad! He turned 41 years old on Sunday July 14, 2013 and my grandfather turned 70 years old on July 13, 2013. It is so amazing having awesome, supportive men in my life! So after I made it home, I changed for the t-shirts and turbans photo shoot with Revamped and House of Rena! The shoot took place on the Country Club Plaza a little before sunset. The shoot featured Revamped t-shirts and TheeFashionStories.com t-shirts along with fabulous House of Rena turbans. After the shoot ended I called it a night. I was working from 7am to 10pm, but it did not feel like work at all. Doing what you love for a living is more like living a dream.

So I saw that there is nothing better for people than to be happy in their work. That is why we are here! No one will bring us back from death to enjoy life after we die. Ecclesiastes 3:22

Finally on Sunday morning, my dad's birthday, I went to my awesome church New Life in Christ International Ministries. Rapper Da' T.R.U.T.H said a very stunning quote and it stated, " When it comes to the Bible you can believe it, reject it, or edit." That really got me thinking about life. I know for a fact that when I sin I try to work my way around it being wrong. But this quote really stuck me in my side and made me want to get it right. So my advice to you is to draw closer to God and love Him, instead of running from him.

Much Love,
Jas

Ciclely Haire

Who inspires your style?
I keep up with a lot of fashion bloggers and Youtubers. My favorites are Shirley B. Eniang, Patricia Bright, Jenn Im and Ariel Sansaricq. I also read magazines like Nylon, Essence and Elle. I check a few fashion websites pretty frequently, including Styleblazer and Refinery29. And then there are plenty of celebrities whose style I love, like Beyonce, Demi Lovato, Jessica Alba, Kourtney Kardashian, and Rihanna (sometimes).

If you could trade wardrobes with any person who would it be? Why?
I would live in Olivia Pope’s (Scandal) wardrobe Monday through Friday. That woman has given a whole new meaning to the term, power suit. And her white trenchcoat is iconic. But then, I would love to rock Solange’s wardrobe on the weekends. It’s effortless and sexy, but still fun and edgy too.

Name your top 3 places to shop.
I always describe Forever 21 as that on-again-off-again boyfriend. Even when you try to venture out, you know Forever 21 is going to have something you need.  Target is also a favorite of mine. They keep up with fashion trends, the prices aren’t outlandish, and they always have my size. I guess my third favorite place to shop would be thrift stores. I know that’s such a cliché, but there are days when my entire outfit is from Goodwill or Savers or Maude V.

Do you prefer group shopping or solo missions? Why?
It depends on what I’m shopping for and where I’m shopping. Most of the time, I just go in on a solo mission to buy jeans or shoes or something. But if I’m at a thrift store or Topshop or somewhere, where the things you pick up can go either way, it helps to have a fresh pair of eyes to say, “That palm tree-printed top is just too weird,” or “That sweatshirt is not worth $50.”

Holy Chic Tee + Denim Skater Skirt + Stripe Wedge Sandals

Lo'Cal Fashion Magazine: The White Out

The White Out Fashion Show was presented by Lo'Cal Fashion Magazine at the Downtown Marriott on June 29, 2013. The CEO of Lo'Cal Fashion Magazine is Miss TaChai M. Hayes. Lo'Cal Fashion Magazine is Kansas City based and will be launching it's first issue in January 2014. Lo'Cal Fashion Magazine is "Where locals make headlines!" Check out their website here to get a feel for what Lo'Cal Fashion Magazine is all about! If you have any business inquiries or questions do not hesitate to contact the Lo'Cal Fashion Magazine team at localfashmag@gmail.com!

Now let's get started talking about The White Out! The show featured lines from talented Kansas City designers and stylists. Designers included: Langston Jones, Luis and Bryan, Nyla Handy, and Shabeba Rodriguez. Each line presented was authentic and I really appreciated the variety of model types and pieces in each segment. Mr. Simeon Taylor was the host of The White Out Fashion Show. He was hilarious and did an awesome job rocking the runway!

CEO: Tachai M. Hayes
Designer Langston Jones started the show off with his fabulous line Eyedentitee Theft. His t-shirts were one of a kind in design. I really liked one of his t-shirts that said, "Respect My Roots." His skirts were also to die for. I loved the cohesiveness of his line. Jones is a great designer and I look forward to working with him in the near future.

Stylists Luis and Bryan of LB Glam did a phenomenal job with hair and makeup for their models. Each model rocked a few fabulous pieces of jewelry from the LB Glam line. I loved that each necklace modeled was a statement piece. I love chunky jewelry, so I was in heaven each time I saw a piece that the LB Glam team created! I can't wait to see more from this dynamic duo!

Designer Nyla Handy brought a very upbeat and sassy feel to The White Out's runway with her line Undomesticated. I loved the energy of each model and bright colors of each look. Nyla has an eye for things that are different and pull your attention. I am really happy that I got to see her work and can't wait to see more from her. Undomesticated was a great line to see! Not to mention that Nyla was a sweetheart when I met her after the show!

Last but certainly not least, Shabeba Rodriguez's line S. Nicole rocked the runway with classic yet sassy looks. I really loved the flow that each one of her dress, tops, and skirts embodied. Each model looked awesome and confident rocking the runway. I was really impressed with the quality in each S. Nicole piece. The pieces looked similar to high-end pieces that you would find on Dillard's or Macy's rack. S. Nicole is definitely a line that is going to make it big!

I was really impressed with each line that was presented at The White Out, from the makeup, to clothing, to models.  I enjoyed the atmosphere at The White Out! I had a great time at the show and after party with my sister/makeup artist Delicia Edward and my cousin/ House of Rena designer Eranne Whiters.  This was my first white linen fashion show/party and I must say that it was fantastic! Great job Lo'Cal Fashion Magazine and I can't wait to see your next show in September!

Much Love,
Jas
