Unorthodox Clothing Founder/Creative Director: Sadiki McDermott

My phone interview with Sadiki of Unorthodox Clothing took place on November 14, 2013. I could literally feel his passion beating through his chest over the phone. Sadiki was fun to talk to and honest with his responses. He didn’t have cookie cutter responses for my questions. He was open and very descriptive. Sadiki has big dreams and a positive attitude that will carry him. His team and crazy work ethic will definitely get Unorthodox Clothing to that next level in the streetwear industry. I actually found out about Unorthodox Clothing through one of Sadiki's teammates, YouTube Guru, The Notorious Kia.  Keep reading to learn more about the amazing and innovative man behind Unorthodox Clothing!

Where do you see your career within the 5 years?
S: I see myself as an entrepreneur, building on my dreams and making a difference. I see Unorthodox Clothing being a leader in the streetwear industry, expanding to Tokyo, London, to a bigger LA market, taking over New York, inside of a variety of department stores and boutiques.

What is your idea of “getting there?”
S: Long ways away in reality, but not in my mind. Realistically, I would just like to make a difference in the world. I want to change a lot of lives in a positive way and leave something for my family, particularly my daughter.

Sadiki wants to pave the way for those who will come after him. He wants to open up schools, starting in New York or somewhere on the east coast. Good, quality education is very important to Sadiki. The right schooling is important. He wants to change the system and create an atmosphere where entrepreneurs can thrive.

Who have you worked with and/or worked for? Who would you like to work with and/or work for?
S: I have worked for Nordstrom’s in the suit department, styling and taking measurements. I learned a lot about how you are supposed to look and carry yourself. Everyone is different and everyone will wear anything. A lot of people want to look normal, but Unorthodox Clothing is here to let people know that they can wear whatever they want to wear. We provide clothing and style for individuals.

Live Every Breath That You Breath

Last night I was inspired to love, to decorate, to smile, to enjoy the small things, and I am forever grateful. I wanted to vent to those closest to me, but I decide that my readers and supporters could learn so much from last night as well. So here goes my account of what it really means to live every breath that you breath.

"So I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun." Ecclesiastes 8:15 NLT

Have you ever had a conversation that blew your mind with a complete stranger? Or maybe just spilled out your guts to someone that you weren't that close to? Well I had both of those experiences last night with two older women. They were both super kind and encouraging. I was able to let my guard down and I found that the more honest and vulnerable I was; the more open that they were. The amount of walls that we put up is ridiculous, but when God intervenes it is easy to be real. If you want to really live every breath that you breath, you have to be vulnerable with people. Not everyone, but at least someone. We all need someone and quite honestly life can get lonely with no one to vent. That is why I try to thank God everyday for my friends and family. People are here today and gone tomorrow. Life is too short to be surrounded with negativity.

What is the most important thing in your life right now? Who makes you smile? Who encourages you to be your best self? What are the forces driving you to change? Stay close to whatever or whoever came to mind. Life is about being alive and experiencing all of the great things that God has given us. It's not about obtaining material objects or winning titles, but rather doing the work that God put you here to do and loving each step along the way. Living is more than just breathing. Always count your blessings! Try to smile a little more and laugh a little louder today. Tomorrow is not promised and really neither is today, so live every breath that you breath with a positive mindset and joy in your heart.

Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 1 Timothy 6:17 NLT

Recently, I have found myself longing to be a more compassionate, affectionate, and understanding person. I am learning to speak about how I feel and be honest no matter what people think. You can't enjoy your life if you are constantly making decisions based on what other people desire for you. Take time out to get to know yourself and love yourself. It often amazes me to think that 1 year ago I was so unsure of myself and my abilities, but today I am confident and positive that I am right where God needed me to be. So from one college student, sister, blogger, friend, to another make sure that you take care of yourself and really live every breath that you breath instead of just existing. You are important and you matter!!!

Much Love,
